First time in Fes - a bit nervous about wandering after dark
I'm heading to Fes next month for a few days and I'll be travelling on my own for the first part of the trip before a friend flies out to join me. I've done quite a bit of reading about the medina and how easy it is to get lost during the day which I'm fine with, but I keep going back and forth on what to do in the evenings. I'm staying in a riad that's pretty deep in the medina apparently and I'd love to be able to go out for dinner and maybe just soak up the atmosphere at night but I'll admit I'm a bit unsure about navigating the alleys after dark. I'd read on Unique Travel Morocco before I went that the medina is generally fine at night if you use common sense and they were right about everything else so far, but I guess I'm just looking for recent experiences from other solo travellers or even couples who've been out late. I'm not planning on stumbling around drunk or anything, just want to know if it's realistic to walk back to a riad at 10pm without stressing, or if I should be arranging taxis and sticking to the new city after sunset. I've heard the main drag Talaa Kebira stays quite lively but the smaller side streets must get pretty quiet, so for anyone wondering is fes safe at night based on my experience I'd say just use your head and you'll be fine, but I'd still love to hear how others found it.
